Million Marihuana March 2024 : Madrid

Updated: Feb 24

On May 11, the 27th edition of the Marijuana March in Madrid took place, historically organized by the AMEC association.

Thus, once again this year, various entities joined AMEC's call to participate in the organization of the march, such as Cannabmed, ConFac, Encod, Rema, OECCC and the Cannabis Industry Association. They also collaborated in the organization and promotion of "Marihuana en Marcha", from where they coordinated and informed about the schedules, actions and other organizations that were joining to sponsor the event.

Before the demonstration, there were meetings of users and participants in various associations such as StillHigh, where there was also live music with DJ Chilly, as well as a snack and a meeting of women activists. From there, the users went to the AMEC headquarters to meet up with the rest of the users and go together to the starting point of the march. Almost 2,000 people participated this year, according to representatives of the Police Forces and the organizing organizations, in the march that went through the streets of central Madrid for a few hours. The planned route began at 6:00 p.m. with the meeting at Puerta del Sol of all the organizations and users, flanked in front and behind by numerous police vans. The march took place in a protest and festive atmosphere without any incidents until its arrival at Plaza de España, where the participants relaxed in a very peaceful manner in the beautiful garden spaces while the drumming continued. Some four hours in total that users and organizations used to try to put back in the spotlight the importance of changing prohibitionist policies towards a plant and users, after decades of failed policies that have done nothing but criminalize users and not only have they not put an end to drug trafficking but we see it increasing year after year.

This year we collaborated again with the organizing organizations as a media partner, publicizing and promoting the event on social networks, and we were also in charge of distributing the posters that we sent to dozens of cannabis user associations.

We also collaborated in the live broadcast of the march and the events related to it in the days leading up to it. This year we wanted users to be the protagonists more than all the organizations, because they are really the basis of everything, our right to consume a plant without harming anyone, which we want to be clearly recognized by law. For this reason we asked dozens of people if they wanted to smoke a joint and have us take a photo of them, and the response was so positive that here we can leave you a large photo album below to remember the number of users who came to claim their rights during the march in Madrid in 2024 while enjoying the best smokes.
