A private association of cannabis users that has been serving the residents of Barcelona's Eixample for more than 10 years.
In 2013 there were already dozens of private associations of cannabis users in the city of Barcelona, only a couple of years before these associations began to become popular, based on the mythical ARSEC and similar ones that in the 90s had been the first groups to form. That year Green Age began its journey, locating its headquarters in the central Roselló street, between Paseo de Gracia and Avenida Diagonal. With a spacious premises, an elegant design and a familiar treatment, it knew how to meet the demands of neighboring cannabis users in the area.
The association was born with the intention of creating a large project that included self-production, support for members to address their concerns and help develop their skills, the drive to create a center of ideas and research or a brand of cannabis products. Although there was a will in all of them, some of them could not be carried out, especially due to the lack of regulation, not only of these social entities but of everything related to cannabis in Spain.
Since the headquarters opened, art exhibitions, musical sessions and live performances have been held. One of the first exhibitions that took place was "Señales de Humo" by the collective "Los Extraterrestres". Inaugurated a few months earlier at the Barcelona Hemp Museum, it included works by different artists, cartoonists and illustrators who, using different techniques, gave us a personal vision of their relationship with cannabis. Sergio Mora, Nacho Simal, Paco Carrión, David Curto, Nono Kadávar, Lamelos, Lusesita, Marton, Laura Pérez Vernetti, Gonzalo Rueda, Samuel Salcedo, Dace Sietina, Nacho Tatjer, Irkus M. Zeberio, Jacko, Puke or Lautanamera are just a few. of the artists who participated in this traveling exhibition that passed through Green Age on two occasions but also toured 16 other associations in the city between 2013 and 2014. Since then, new artistic works have been exhibited every month, whether by members of the association itself or other invited artists.
Always musically enlivened, the venue also has a stage for live performances and for DJs to mix music from the booth. From Soul, salsa or hip-hop, through rock and pop, to electronic or ethnic, the diversity of styles is directly proportional to the variety of tastes of the members.
After a few years in operation in 2019, some necessary works were carried out with which it was possible to recover some skylights on the roof through which natural light now enters the premises. Likewise, they took the opportunity to change the design, making it more spacious, some walls were knocked down and new furniture was added, thus creating different spaces to be able to be together with other members as well as oneself working with their computer.
